During the winter of 2012 I was gifted with a painting retreat to the island of O'ahu in the Hawaiian Islands. Traveling with water based oil paints, brushes and my small size canvasettes in a suitcase, I was able to set up plein air stations. Because I haven't redone or refined these paintings, I consider them on site studies, which I sometimes prefer over the studio labored works. Although the air temperature was always comfortable, and the mysterious “aina,” or sense of love, completion and satisfaction was in the air, the skies were often not pure blue, but more often light blue or white-ish. I recorded as faithfully as I could.
